About Creative Homesteading

Creative Homesteading.com is a family based project, sharing the way that we live, the things we believe in and the pleasures of life itself. More than a project or an idea, Creative Homesteading is for us a way of life.

This website was founded a couple of years ago, as a way of sharing the things that my family believes in with our friends and a way of hopefully making life better for those around us.

The content is provided free of charge as an online magazine type website. We do not produce an actual print version. It is cost prohibitive (expensive) and wasteful and magazines are simply going out of style.

Most of the content is written by, or edited by me, Joni Morton and I try real hard to update the site constantly but.... we are saddled with the age old issue of time is money.

I do not get paid for the time and effort involved in putting together the information contained in the site or keeping it updated or the forums moderated except in ad sales if and when we get advertisers! and from the sales of the ebooks and guides I have written that are available from the menu, the sale of our homemade soaps and from raising and breeding Beagles and Bluetick Coonhounds.

We use the small amounts of extra money to make ends meet and keep everyone fed and in good health.

This is a HOBBY site and not a business.

I maintain a full time job, a farm and raise a family. My oldest daughter lives at home and works a full time job while attending college as well and contributes greatly to the financial stability of our family. We both work meager paying jobs that are available in an economy that is almost non-existent in our  community. We are by no means rich and live month to month like many of you.

While many people are just now discovering 'homesteading' and the value of living a simple and more economical way of life, it is something that I grew up with.

My father was a pioneer believer of the homesteading movement in the 1970's, and was a firm believer in making the best of what you have, utilizing everything to it's fullest extent and wasting nothing. His dream was to live in an earth sheltered home, dug into the side of the mountains of North Carolina that he called home.

Creative Homesteading is based on Christian principles, family tradition, the ways of our elders, my Cherokee heritage, and a spiritual need to see to it that the history and wisdom of generations gone by remain a part of the lives of generations to come.
