Retiring From the Modern World Part 4 in a Series of 8
Analysis of
Today's Financial Outlook Retiring from the modern world means many things to different people. To us it simply means going back to a simpler time where electric tools and toys were a luxury and not a standard. Where the media and the propaganda fed to us by the marketing geniuses didn't guide our shopping preferences. There are many modern traps that people fall into... A few of them are listed below:
Lets go into a few of the things that modern society doesn't teach you.... Like:
So all that said, it's time to retire from the world. Give up competing and trying to keep up with everyone else and start living your life for you. Instead of worrying about how many minutes you have on your cell phone, start worrying about next years food supply for you and your family, get a prepaid cell phone that is good for EMERGENCIES. Staying connected isn't the most important thing in the world. Letting go of the modern world is harder on your family than it will be on you most likely. After all you're here, you're reading and you're willing, but your family is likely to be reluctant to give up all those modern conveniences. In our family we've 'traded' things...... like not using the hair dryer, or not running the computer all night. Or leaving lights on for air conditioning when it's 90+. It takes a lot of trades to earn air conditioning..... We like many people have central heat/air, but NEVER does our thermostat drop below 80 when the air is on. During the winter, we use wood. The thermostat stays at a wonderful 60....... at night we drop it to 50. Enough to make sure pipes don't freeze. Air Conditioning is a relatively new invention. So is television. What do you think people did before A/C and video games?? There are other modern ideas that must be left behind besides those creature comforts. Like needing electricity for everything. Like the over use of electricity to begin with, the over use of our water resources. Do these things matter? Yes..... In the drought in the Southeast last year alone water bills double and tripled in places where city water was supplied in an effort to get people to conserve. Those with wells faced dry wells, creeks and streams. Lakes dried up. Several town reported having to ration water to a few hours a week. Learning to live in accordance with the rhythm of the earth is one of those ideas it is time for society to embrace. It is time to bring back some of the old methods of living, the ones that were more earth friendly and economical.
