Creative Homesteading is unique for a variety of reasons. It was conceived out of need - my own. My love of homesteading, my love of learning and the written word. It also fills a void in my memory allowing me to keep written notes on information that I know I need and would otherwise loose track of. Once upon a typical day on the internet I went searching for information to help me diagnose and treat an ailing goat when a vet was unreachable. There was a page that I read....... common goat ailments. 404 not found.... So I started going thru old homesteading magazines. There are NO articles on treating an ailing goat in those I discovered. And there is very little information on raising pigs on the internet. Most of those magazines I read and or grew up with on homesteading do not cover anything practical. Its like they are all now trying to sell you on the idea of homesteading and worse yet they are catering to a crowd with far more financial resources than sense! No practical advice to be offered there. While the topic of homesteading is not unique, we think our approach is. A lot of the information that we have started gathering here can be found and researched online if you have the time. How useful is what you can find? Not too bad if you can make sense out of what they are telling you or put together all the pieces of the many different articles to form a cohesive picture. So what makes our approach to this information different? It's about the telling and sharing of the information. It is about conveying a whole picture, telling the whole story, and making it understandable that is what counts. The approach taken by the editor/author, the quality of the content, how it applies to our lives and our ability to use it. Each article here is heavily researched and is tempered with my own experiences. And in my 40 closer to 50 years I've had a lot of those! I've also have a streak of honesty in me that most writers don't seem to have. I'm not here to pad the truth or to paint you a pretty picture. I'm here to save you time, money and to hopefully offer some practical advice on how to work smarter not harder. This is a completely voluntary position. I do not get paid to endorse any products, and I don't get a paycheck from anyone. I do have a few products I sell online here and I have linked to them from this website. So my opinions and experiences are not influenced by any particular company or brand name. Because I do run my own homestead and work it, you are getting my mistakes and successes and hopefully the benefits of both. I walk the same path as most of the readers here. I do not have money to burn. I am not by any means wealthy nor do I have a disposable income. What I do have is an education and the internet is a large part of that and gives me the ability to put this information together and share it with you. It is my intent to archive here quite a bit of information that is hard to come by on raising livestock, practical ways to recycle otherwise disposable items, creative ideas for making life more fun, less expensive and healthier! If you have an opinion, or experience you would be willing to share I'll be glad to post it. It would help far more people if I could offer a variety of experiences and talents here. It would help to know how the different areas of the country affect not just gardens but animals. Hopefully my explanation of what makes Creative Homesteading unique will convince you to keep an eye on the growth of our resources and to continue to visit us! |
