Who We Are? Who is behind Creative Homesteading? Joni Morton, family and friends I am a 45 year old mother and grandmother. Local artist and writer, I have been writing and creating since the age of 15 when I started selling my art work and writings professionally. My artistic talents are a diverse mixture of both visual arts and writings. Commercial pieces include human and animal portraits, original watercolors, oils, and sketches, screen printings and pen and ink drawings. In the last 30 years I have written a variety of how-to books, and publications, cookbooks, television pilots. I have also worked as ghost writer for several semi-famous individuals, and created technical manuals, written press releases and worked as a publicist/pr person for several publicly traded companies all as a freelance writer. Mostly self employed, I have been 'self sufficient' most of my adult life. Born and raised in North Carolina, by parents of meager means, I quickly learned how to make the most out of what was available. Having lived a very rural lifestyle most of my younger years, I retained my appreciation of my country upbringing through out the duration of my adult life. Self educated, I taught myself internet programming in asp, php, perl, html, and developed quite a talent for internet marketing and have utilized those tools and skills to make a living online for the last 12 years. After years of apartment living and living what could be considered a normal life, I made some choices that took me back to my roots and purchased 20 acres of land, built a small farm and retreated from the world at large. It is here that my family and I now have put down roots and cultivated a way of life that fits who we are. Between my family and friends, we hope to bring something our way of life to you, to share what we know and spread the wealth of living better with less! We hope you enjoy Creative Homesteading. It is the product of all that we are and all that we know. Hopes are to turn this into a monthly or bi-monthly magazine of sorts. There are so few good resources for homesteading materials, or articles on raising farm animals for consumption on a small scale. I've searched endlessly for information online to build on the knowledge and curiosity I have and to replace that information that used to be handed down thru the generations - most of it now lost or forgotten. I believe that as more and more of people of the world fall into the same financial situation as many Americans, of living above their means for far too long, homesteading will become the one remaining constant in a world where money is the thing that separates us all. If you have any questions, or would like to drop me a line, you can email me anytime at joni @ creativehomesteading.com. If there are questions you have on homesteading, raising animals, gardening, homeschooling, canning, freezing or anything to do with being self sufficient, I'll do my best to answer them. If you are successfully living a self sufficient lifestyle, or have something to contribute to the website we'd be grateful to hear from you. |
